If you're seeking a charming spot that embodies warmth, community spirit, and flavorful simplicity, look no further than Mustard Seed Cafe and Christian Bookshop in the picturesque town of Sidmouth. Nestled at 1 All Saints Rd, Sidmouth EX10 8ER, United Kingdom, this delightful establishment is not just a cafe; it's a haven for those looking to enjoy a peaceful moment over coffee, a hearty meal, or a good book.

Mustard Seed Cafe merges the cozy atmosphere of a traditional coffee shop with the enlightening ambiance of a bookshop, creating a unique experience where patrons can relax, read, and savor delicious treats. The cafe offers a variety of lunch options and snacks throughout the day, making it an ideal stop whether you're diving into a good read or catching up with friends.

Patrons have raved about the friendly and inviting service, largely provided by volunteers from a Christian background. Many visitors, like Greg Bright, appreciate the gentle vibe and welcoming atmosphere, even if service can be a tad slower during peak hours. However, that’s a small price to pay for such a beloved community gem.

When it comes to the menu, you can indulge in a myriad of treats, from comforting toasties to hearty cooked breakfasts that leave you feeling warm and full—just ask Andy Falconbridge, whose praises for the cooked breakfast and lovely coffee reflect the joy found in every dish. Afternoon delights like their renowned cream tea have also drawn in repeat visitors, many of whom can't resist coming back for another taste, as highlighted by Sarah Cooper.

While some guests have noted the limitations in the selection of books or occasional service hiccups—like those mentioned by Graham Senior—the overwhelming sentiment is one of appreciation and fondness for the space. Guests are more than happy to overlook minor inconveniences in favor of the genuine warmth radiating from both the staff and the delicious offerings.

In a world where many cafes provide a sterile experience, Mustard Seed Cafe stands out for its nurturing environment and community-driven mission. Whether you stop by for a light lunch, to browse their selection of Christian literature, or just to enjoy a cup of their freshly brewed coffee, you’ll find that this lovely cafe nourishes not only the body but also the soul.

So why not take a step into this delightful corner of Sidmouth? The friendly faces and sincere hospitality await—you might just leave with a full stomach and a new favorite book or two!

A gentle Coffee Shop and Christian Bookshop, in the middle of Sidmouth serving lunch and snacks throughout the day. The shop is staffed mainly by volunteers, mostly from a Christian background, who are a delight. The shop was pretty busy when we visited, hence they dropped a star for longer than usual service. Well worth seeking out.

We have visited the mustard seed over many years, have always been very very happy about it in every way. I knew it was closing,so we were having a last visit, checked internet etc, no knotice of closure,so,looking forward to lunch there,we came down from Poole. Unfortunately the cafe is now closed for good, please change timings on internet to save others. I will always have good memories of the mustard seed, the place, and staff. Thanks for the service and memories..David..

This is a cafe very convenient for the 9 bus to Exeter bus station. Food and Coffee very nice. We had toasties which were tasty. They serve puddings and kitchen closes at 1430.

A lovely place. Do pop in. Reasonable prices. Staff are do friendly and accommodating. The kitchen had just closed as we arrived but they still obliged by offer to make my husband a tuna sandwich ...I had a cream tea. Both were delicious.

I had hoped for more from this bookshop-cum-cafe. The selection of books was limited, and my savoury scone, which came with half a spoon of chutney and a tiny piece of cheese stuck to the roof of my mouth as if they were concrete. Well-meaning but confused staff tried to get me to pay my bill before I had even ordered. Could do with some staff training and a wider selection of books.

Lovely place, great food in an unhurried atmosphere. I wholeheartedly recommend The Mustard Seed. The staff and volunteers are super friendly and helpful. The food is freshly prepared. I had a delicious tuna salad and my sister had chilli jacket. We are coming back tomorrow for the cream tea!
